WEB BASICS
The Internet is a powerful way to reach a wealth of resources. Surfing the Internet is very easy, but it is often a little confusing to newcomers. The first thing to know is that clicking on a HyperLink, or Link for short, will take you to wherever the link goes. Here's an example: Take a look at the link below - it is blue in color and says "CLICK ANYWHERE ON THIS LINK TO GO TO THE TOP OF THIS PAGE". Now Click on the link below and see how it takes you to the top of the page. Afterwards, come back to this point by scrolling down the page.

CLICK ANYWHERE ON THIS LINK TO GO TO THE TOP OF THIS PAGE

If you clicked on the link above and then came back down to this point, you probably noticed that the link changed color from blue to violet. That's intended to show that you already "visited" that link. The link still works, and you can follow that link again if you want to, but the change in color lets you know that you've already been there.

The PWD web site uses the blue/violet color combination. But don't be fooled - any site can use any colors they choose. Most text links are highlighted by a different color than the normal text. The best way to know for sure if text is a link is to move the cursor over it. If the cursor changes shape from the normal shape (usually an arrow) to another shape (usually a hand shape), then the text is a link.

The web is filled with many pictures, graphics and other images. Any image can also be a link. Images come in many forms and colors, and they don't necessarily change colors after you visit them. So how do you know if an image is a link? Either move the cursor over the picture and see if the cursor changes shape; or, simply click on the image and see if anything happens. Try it with the red arrow below - it will take you to the top of the page just like the text link did. Afterwards, scroll back down the page to this point.

INTRODUCTORY TUTORIAL FOR INTERNET EXPLORER USERS
The link examples in the WEB BASICS section above were used to move within a single page. But links are also used to move to other pages and to other web sites. To illustrate this, we've provided a link to an INTRODUCTORY TUTORIAL on another page. But before you go there, you should know how to get back to the PWD web site just in case you get "lost".

There are several ways to do this. First, although the tutorial is on another page, the PWD buttons at the left side of this frame should remain. Choose the "MEMBER INFO" button to get back to this page after you finish the tutorial.

If you're using the Internet Explorer that was provided by PWD, you can always get back to PWD by using the "Go" option at the top of the Explorer and then choosing "Start Page".

Another way is to use the "BACK" button at the top of the browser to go backwards page by page until you reach this page.

Otherwise, you will need to type the address www.pwdnet.com to return to the PWD web site. Then click on the "MEMBER INFO" button.
